General Objective

To train English language teachers to become specialists in contemporary theories and practices focused on designing, implementing, and reflecting on pedagogical interventions in order to maximize learning among their English language students.

Specific Objectives

  1. Assess learning needs of English language learners from diverse academic contexts, considering a wide spectrum of linguistic and social-emotional factors to create innovative programs, courses and pedagogical experiences that are conducive to meaningful learning.
  2. Analyze advanced linguistic components, theories, principles, and pedagogical practices related to the learning and teaching of English to speakers of other languages from a multi-dimensional perspective to make informed decisions around the design and delivery of learning experiences.
  3. Create curricula, courses, lesson plans, pedagogical materials, and assessment tools based on contemporary and multidimensional theories of psychology of language learning, second language acquisition, approaches, and methodologies to offer student-centered learning experiences that enhance the development of English linguistic skills and intercultural competence.
  4. Implement learning experiences influenced by contemporary and multi-dimensional theories based on psychology of language learning, second language acquisition, approaches, and methodologies to promote the development of linguistic skills and intercultural competence.
  5. Develop comprehensive instructional guides based on TESOL specializations (Bilingual/Multilingual Education and Teaching English for Specific Purposes) to promote effective teaching practices and meaningful student learning experiences.
